I particularly enjoyed the painting on the theme of Gibraltar (Loreto Convent by Clive Lavagna) and it was hard to decide which of the excellent works should br awarded the prize.I feel very privileged to have been given the opportunity to have been involved in this exhibition.

Clive's paintings are vibrant, full of colour and imagery with a sense of the theatrical which for me, personally, makes his paintings come alive. One can almost imagine the scene on the stage with actors, props and scenery.

I had spent an hour considering the whole, my feeling was one of respect. I had been looking at the work of a mature and accomplished artist who has developed a distinctive personal, pictorial language. The colour, the movement in the paintings and the excitement had masked the labour, the carefully considered composition, the intelligent and sensitive use of glazes and the creative handling of colour.
